The Little Bay Estate Manager is expressing disappointment with the scant interest shown so far by Montserratians and local residents in the Marine Village development.

Charlesworth Phillip made the comment following a mandatory meeting Wednesday for persons who have collected documents outlining the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the four high quality beach facilities at Little Bay.

Montserrat to host an ICT Development and Management workshop

Another crucial step to be taken to advance Government’s plans to realize the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) vision for Montserrat!

And this, as the Ministry of Communications Works and Labour prepares to host a three day ICT Development and Management workshop next week.

Two Senior Managers from the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO) will facilitate the ICT Development and Management Training for Montserrat which begins on May 22nd running through to May 24th. Continue reading

Director of Infrastructure at the Montserrat Development Corporation (MDC) John Cox has reported some positive investment prospects coming from Montserrat’s attendance at the recent Caribbean Hotel and Resort Investment Summit or (CHRIS)  in Miami.

Premier, the Honourable Reuben Meade, MDC Executive Chairman John Ryan, Director of Trade and Investment Promotion at MDC David Crichton and Consulting Architect for the Little Bay Master Plan Lane Pettigrew were the other members of the Montserrat delegation at the May 6th -7th Conference. A young Montserratian fast bowler selected to the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre

Montserratian young fast bowler Quinton Boatswain has been selected for the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre for the 2013-2014 programme.

 

The announcement was made today by the West Indies Cricket Board, WICB.

Boatswain, 22, is among 14 other players that have been chosen to participate in the programme. Continue reading

The latest in a series of Social Impact Assessments (SIA) continues on Thursday Many 16th, 2013 with a discussion in Salem.

To this end, a meeting will be held at the Salem Primary School starting at 7:00 pm for residents in the community and surrounding areas.

The Social Impact Assessment (SIA) which is ongoing for the past several weeks is looking at the various reforms that the Government of Montserrat is undertaking under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department for International Development (DfID) for the Strategic Growth Plan for Montserrat. Montserrat gets extension to pursue new investor options

The UK Government has agreed to give Montserrat additional time to pursue new investor options for the development of the Carrs Bay Port and the new town at Little Bay.

In a letter to the Hon. Premier Reuben T. Meade, DFID’s Minister of State Alan Duncan and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the FCO Mark Simmonds commended the island for the work on the Strategic Growth Programme which aims to move Montserrat towards more financial independence.

The ministers say the UK remains committed to Montserrat and in the letter they set out the next stages for working together. Continue reading

Montserrat’s committment to fight against tax fraud and tax evasion recognized by the European Union

Montserrat has received special mention for its commitment to joining the global pilot initiative in the fight against tax fraud and tax evasion.

At its just-concluded meeting in Brussels, the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) of the Council of the European Union, in its conclusions, welcomed the commitment of Montserrat and the other British Overseas Territories who are holding up their hands recognizing that it is important to take effective steps to stamp out these scourges.

In that context, the ECOFIN also welcomed news that France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK have agreed to work on a pilot multilateral exchange facility using the model agreed with the US as the basis for this multilateral exchange. Continue reading

Montserrat signs MoU with the UK Department for Transport in the BVI

Montserrat and the UK Department for Transport (DfT) in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The new MoU will among other things facilitate formal assistance to Montserrat to help establish international standards for the regulation of the maritime industry.

Financial Secretary, the Honourable John Skerritt and the Comptroller of Customs Peter White, who is also the Registrar of ships in Montserrat are attending the Red Ensign annual conference in Road Town Tortola. Continue reading

Governor’s Office accepting applications for Delegated Fund 2013/14

BRADES, Montserrat (May 15, 2013) – The Governor’s Office is inviting applications to the Governor’s delegated fund 2013/2014. A total of EC$ 200,000 is available to be disbursed to special projects submitted by government and non-governmental organisations and departments.

According to Staff Officer Tom Regan, there is no thematic preference this year but bids that are ambitious and sustainable are encouraged. Continue reading
