Montserrat unveils new brand identity: Relaxation Refined

BRADES, Montserrat- In the first step of its exciting re-launch and as plans for a new capital town and tourism drive gather pace, the Caribbean island of Montserrat has unveiled a new brand identity. With the new look soon to be rolled out both online and offline, this re-branding process has been led by luxury Caribbean real estate and destination marketing specialist 7th Heaven Properties who worked with a wide selection of local stakeholders to establish the island’s new identity.

The re-branding is the initial phase of a new high-end, low-density tourism strategy that aims to attract private sector investment into the new capital at Little Bay and to encourage visitors to the island. Continue reading

Fly Montserrat begins direct flights to Nevis, eyeing St. Kitts route

BRADES, Montserrat – Fly Montserrat made is inaugural flight between Nevis and Montserrat this morning Monday, June 04, 2012 and the tourism board hopes it will fuel an increase in inter-island travel.
Acting Director of the Montserrat Tourist Board Mrs. Elveta Chalmers said they stand behind this new initiative by Captain Nigel and Shelley Harris of Fly Montserrat. “We are fully behind you and will support in any way we can,” she said at a press conference.
Travelling to Montserrat on the inaugural flight were Alistair Yearwood, Tourism Advisor to the Premier of Nevis; Christine Williams of Kantours Travel Agency; Tyrone O’Flaherty Permanent Secretary Ministry of Tourism; and Kerry Williams of Nevis Government Information.
Captain Harris said he is grateful for the support he received from the tourism board and extended thanks to the Premier of Nevis who was on hand for the morning landing ceremony there.
The daily flights will spend a few minutes on the ground in Antigua before continuing on to Montserrat. The airline CEO said this will facilitate the many Nevisians onward connections to flights. At present, there are only flights to Antigua from Nevis twice a week. Continue reading

Inaugural Nevis to Montserrat flight starts June 4, 2012

BRADES, Montserrat – The Montserrat Tourist Board has welcomed the scheduled start of flights between Nevis and Montserrat by Fly Montserrat.
The inaugural flight takes place on Monday, June 4 and is expected to arrive on Montserrat about 8:50am. The guests will be given an island tour, treated to lunch and will also speak with the press about the experience.
Programme Officer of the MTB, Rosetta West visited Nevis last Tuesday to meet with tour operators and other representatives in the tourism industry to encourage them to offer their clients the unique opportunity of a Nevis – Montserrat Day Tour.
West said the day tour to Montserrat “would add to the overall enjoyment and experience of their visit to the Region. Only a 20-minute flight between the two islands, this new venture will give visitors ample time to explore and enjoy what Montserrat has to offer,” she told the hoteliers and tour operators there.
Fly Montserrat has been in operation since 2010 and offers daily service between Antigua and Montserrat, as well as charter flights. More information on booking can be found online at www.visitmontserrat.com.

Governor’s Office releases A Visitor’s Guide to Consular Services

BRADES, Montserrat – The Governor’s Office, in collaboration with the Deputy Governor’s Office and the Royal Montserrat Police Service recently launched a leaflet entitled “Welcome to Montserrat: A Visitor’s Guide to Consular Services.”
The guide is issued to all first time arrivals and those who have not visited Montserrat for a few years. It explains who to turn to in the event of an emergency. Continue reading

SWEENEY’S Montserrat – Archaeologist Dr. Lydia Pulsipher is of the view that the Carr’s Estate heritage site has the potential to boost tourism in the long term on Montserrat.

This assessment was made during the public lecture Monday night at the Montserrat National Trust in Olveston.

“We want to do very sophisticated and respectful academic research but we also want to create a site that is interpreted for the public and which will be an interesting place to visit for Montserratians, then hopefully in the future it will be a real tourist attraction for Montserrat”, explained Dr. Pulsipher. Special Ferry Fares for Cudjoe Head Day and Antigua Carnival Celebrations

BRADES, Montserrat –The Ministry of Communications and Works and the Montserrat Tourist Board wish to announce a Weekend Ferry Special on Saturday July 30 and Monday August 1, 2011.  This service will allow persons to travel to Antigua for the upcoming carnival.  It is also an opportunity for persons in Antigua to visit Montserrat for Cudjoe Head Day celebrations or for just a peaceful weekend getaway.
The special return fares are: EC$200 for adults and EC$100 for children under 12 years.  This special fare is valid only for same day or weekend return.
One way tickets will be at the normal rate of EC$150.00. Continue reading

Montserrat to benefit from new Caribbean ferry service

BRADES, Montserrat – The Montserrat Tourist Board says it welcomes the announcement of a year-round ferry service for the Caribbean, which will be a boost to the marketing drive to attract new visitors.

L’Express Des Iles this week announced that the Jeans Ferry Service will begin on October 20, offering travel to Dominica, St. Lucia, Guadeloupe and Martinique. There will also be weekend charters to Montserrat, Antigua, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Martin and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Currently, L’Express Des Iles operates a less frequent service but Managing Director Roland Bellemare says there’s been increased travel over the years.

MTB Director Ernestine Cassell and Marketing Manager Ishwar Persad met with Valerie Arunel from Kiosque des Iles in Martiniqe, which is the tour company for ferry operator Les Express Des Iles in March during the ITB Berlin as a result of contacts made via the MTB’s office in Guadeloupe.
