FESTIVAL CITY, Montserrat – Chrystal Beckles of Barbados reigned supreme over a group of talented female calypsonians to take the 2nd Euphony Vibes Regional Female Calypso title.

The competition was one of the major events on Montserrat’s Festival 50 calendar which runs until January 1, 2013.

Beckles performed sixth in each round singing two songs she wrote and arranged herself. In the first round she powerfully delivered Fly on the Wall and in the second, Forgive de Caribbean. Continue reading

162 students enrolled in MYACTS Summer School

A total of 162 students are enrolled in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Culture, Tourism and Sports MYACTS annual summer school programme.

The summer school, for children ages 7 to 15 provides an opportunity for children to learn skills during the summer vacation, such as “music, steel pan, jewelry making, art, dance, tie-dye, masquerade, cricket, netball, basketball and wood work,” as outlined by Coordinator Althea Allen. The SKIN Coming to the Cultural Centre July 8

BRADES, Montserrat – The Montserrat Cultural Centre in collaboration with goldenmedia Montserrat will be hosting the premiere of The Skin, Friday July 8 and 9.

‘The Skin’ is a modern story filled with Caribbean folklore about Michael and Lisa (Brent Simon & Aisha Ralph) who are a young married couple on the verge of losing their home. Their luck changes when Michael, while on a photo-shoot at the historic Betty’s Hope Estate discovers an ancient vase and sells it to an antique dealer (Jeff Stewart).

The couple gets little time to celebrate their good fortune before strange things begin to happen. They are introduced to a Jamaican mystic (Carl Bradshaw) who informs them that the ancient relic was not really a blessing but a curse.

Screenings will be held at 7pm and 9:30pm on Friday, July 8 and one screening at 8pm on Saturday July 9.

BRADES, Montserrat – Montserrat will be represented at a youth conference on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy St. John’s Antigua 16-17 June, 2011 by Tivonne Howe.
According to a CARICOM press statement “the event is the conclusion of the project: Students Engaging the CSME through Field Promotion, which began in 2008 and mobilized 283 tertiary students to experience the CSME in a practical way. Students from CARICOM Member States participating in the CSME, travelled to another CARICOM State to study the CSME in action, receive training and identify responses to CSME opportunities. Montserrat celebrating Worker’s Week

BRADES – The Department of Labour and its Social Partners are pleased to announce the launch of Workers Week 2010, Monday 26th April to Monday 3rd May 2010.

Activities this year will be held under the theme “Workers Embracing Social and Economic Advancement in a Changing World”. The logo used to promote this activity depicts advancements on the local level in Telecommunication, Travel, Commerce and Infrastructure. Continue reading
