EU provides Montserrat with EC$ 55.2 million

01-25-13- Ambassado Hod BarfodEuropean Union Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Mikael Barfod has announced the disbursement of the first tranche of EC$18.2 million (5.13 million euros) of an overall EC$55.2 million (15.66 million Euros) aid package to Montserrat, to help the country boost economic growth and development.

The EU support will primarily assist with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Plan of Montserrat as part of the country’s economic recovery. In addition it will assist with the country’s sustainable growth with a specific focus on public finance management, public sector reform and prudent economic management.

Road Works Damage LIME cables in Salem

LIME would like to advise all its customers that as a result of damage sustained to cable infrastructure below the Montserrat Secondary School during excavation works by the PWD fixed line and broadband services in the Salem and Olveston areas from South of Secondary School will be interrupted this afternoon Tuesday 29 January 2013 from 1:00 p.m until around 6:00 p.m.
LIME apologizes for this outage and we assure our customers that all resources are now being focused on this particular restoration effort. We wish to further advise that customers who may have been scheduled for installation or restoration work today may have delays or changes to their appointments. We will ensure that all parties are appropriately advised and updated.
A further general advisory will be put on air today at 05:00 today.

Montserrat Festival 50 honours key figures in its cultural history

LITTLE BAY, Montserrat – More than 50 people were honoured last evening at the final event on the Montserrat Festival 50 calendar. The festival committee paid tribute to past queens, calypsonians and community

leaders and organisations who supported the annual celebration which turned 50 in 2012.

The red carpet affair organised by Yvette-Ryan and her team was hosted by Shirley Osborne, daughter of the late chief minister Dr. John A. MSS Alumni Association makes donation to their alma mater

mss 057BRADES, Montserrat – Alumni of the Montserrat Secondary School on Thursday presented much-needed supplies to the school as part of their bi-annual get together during Montserrat’s Festival 50 celebrations.

Dorette Harris, president of the registered charity, which comprises of former students of the island’s sole high school, said last year the association received a list of items needed by each department. “We asked them to prioritise the needs and went about acquiring the items at the top. ESTIVAL CITY, Montserrat – Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis added a fourth calypso monarch crown to his credit after delivering two incredible performances at the 50th cultural festival celebrations Calypso Finals on Montserrat last night.

Cupid, who also serves as the Head of the Department of Culture and one of the island’s leading song writers and music instructors also nabbed four of the eight special prizes along with the EC$15,000 cash prize for the winner. Urgent Travel Notice

All individuals intending to travel by ferry from Montserrat to Antigua on any day up to and including the 12th day of January 2013 are hereby requested to provide their names, flight numbers and departure times out of Antigua and other travel information to the Montserrat Tourist Board as soon as possible.
The information is required in order to make adequate transportation arrangements and more particularly to ensure that persons making same day flight connections out of Antigua are able to get there well in advance of their departure time. Chrystal Beckles of Barbados takes Regional Female Calypso Crown

FESTIVAL CITY, Montserrat – Chrystal Beckles of Barbados reigned supreme over a group of talented female calypsonians to take the 2nd Euphony Vibes Regional Female Calypso title.

The competition was one of the major events on Montserrat’s Festival 50 calendar which runs until January 1, 2013.

FlyMontserrat cancels flights to improve customer safety

BRADES, Montserrat – FlyMontserrat on Saturday morning said it had taken the decision to make new arrangements for passengers over the coming days while its pilots undergoing further training.
