LITTLE BAY, Montserrat– A two-day consultation on how Montserrat’s private sector can take advantage of the 22 billion Eastern Caribbean dollar government procurement market is presently ongoing at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.
The sessions are being facilitated by Sharlene Shillingford McKlmon (pronounced McKlemon) is the Deputy Programme Manager for CARICOM’s Framework Regional Integration Policy (FRIP) on public procurement.
Deputy Premier Honourable Charles T. Kirnon told the gathering of Permanent Secretaries and Senior Public Officers on Monday morning that Montserrat is intent on actively participating in the regional common markets including the CARICOM Single Market & Economy (CSME). However, it was necessary for the public and private sector to be aware of the ways in which they can do this successfully and compete for regional contracts. He said Montserratians should not be frightened about the opening of our local markets to the outside as this also gives the island the same rights to enter other markets to do business.
