A review of several health related legislations will be undertaken to bring them in line with international standards.
These include the Medical Act, Public Health Act, Mental Health Act and Nurses and Midwives Act.
Minister of health, the Honourable Collin Riley says the laws will be amended to support modern health and health care services.
“I know specifically for the nurses and midwives act, there is a provision in the proposed amendment to come in with this act for the standards for the definition of a nurse to be revised upwards in terms of the minimum qualifications and the reason for this is because, in Montserrat, we need to get in line with the regional practice.
Riley added that “the standards are being revised somewhat and we are going to be putting that through the process of public review and having the nurses comment on the proposed legislation and then we will take it into the legislature for debate on the floor.”
The Minister said a similar process will be done for the other bills.
